Students from SAEP’s Environmental Programme at Siyazakha Primary School in Philippi, Cape Town, joined Hanli Prinsloo and Peter Marshall from The I am Water Conservation Trust to conduct a beach cleanup from Kalk Bay to St. James on 01st November.
The students filled several large blue bags with waste that was either left behind by beach goers or washed up on the shore. They learnt about the hazards of waste and about many of the creatures and shells they found along their way. They finished the clean up with time to play at the St James tidal pool, where they took in the beauty of False Bay.
In addition to beautifying and conserving the beach, the students also had the opportunity to meet two impressive record holders in the field of water sports – Hanli Prinsloo and Peter Marshall. Hanli holds 11 free diving records in South Africa and Peter holds 2 World Titles, 8 World Records, and enjoyed 11 years of being part of the USA National Swim Team.
We would like to thank I am Water for helping to make the beach cleanup possible!
