SAEP WELCOMES FOUR NEW VOLUNTEERS
in OCTOBER

Carlota Elizabeth Granja.  I was born and grew
up in Sao Paulo, Brazil.  I graduated in Computer Science in 1995. During the past 5 years I have being living and working in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, as an Oracle Data Base Administrator for a company known in SA as Gabriel Shock Absorbers. In August  my boyfriend Eric came to work in Cape Town for 6 to 9 months, and I was able to take unpaid leave to join him and enjoy this BEAUTIFUL country. During this period I decided to occupy my time with volunteer work. Working at SAEP is a brilliant experience. I work with people I like on subjects that, from my point of view, are basic for any society: education and the environment. And I can be in  close contact with South African life and culture. This is bringing even more colour to this period that I am living  in Cape Town.”

Beatrice Niedoba. "I'm from Heidelberg in Germany, and am 25 years old. I am a student at Ruprecht Karls University, studying Geography and Anthropology. I’ve taken a semester off to do volunteer work in Cape Town. I will do this at SAEP from the 17th of Oct. until the 7th of Dec. I am helping out at the office with organizing and planning  involving environmental education excursions for  high school learners. Sometimes I spend the afternoon at the crèches with other volunteers assisting the teachers in whatever needs to be done. It is always a pleasure to be with the little children and to play with them. I really enjoy having the opportunity to work for SAEP supporting their efforts."

Kirsten Dangremond. "I'm from Barrington, Rhode Island, USA and recently graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC with a BA in Psychology. I am volunteering in the Cape Town area for a few months and am enjoying working with SAEP at several crèches in Philippi. We are assisting with making graduation certificates including taking pictures of all the children graduating this year. I have always been interested in early childhood education and teaching, so I am grateful for the opportunity to help further SAEP's mission.

Chelsea Coakley. "I'm from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada and am a student studying Psychology at McGill University in Montreal but have taken a semester off to volunteer in the Cape Town area. I have always had a strong interest in early childhood development as well as education, so working with SAEP has really been an inspiration! We're currently helping out with the crèches in Philippi and have attended a few principals meetings to get to know them as well. I'm also working on taking photos of all the graduating children to make certificates for their ceremonies which will take place last November and early December.
