In the year 2000, a group of students from the Sinethemba S.S.S. English Debating Society asked SAEP for support in organizing a group to study and write poetry. A group was organised under the leadership of Eva DuBuisson, an SAEP intern from Duke University, and they produced a volume of poetry, We Are All Poets, that year as "The Next Philosophers." In 2001, they continued to study and write poetry under the mentorship of poet Sandile Dikeni, and other SAEP interns, especially Catherine DeLazzero, a graduate of Oberlin College in the USA. In late 2002 and 2003, the group is continuing support from Norton Tennille, Executive Director, SAEP.

During 2003, the SAEP Poetry Group will continue its reading, writing, and performance of poetry. We hope to be joined and supported by published South African poets. We also hopeby way of the Internet to establish contact with and share our love of poetry with other students, teachers, poets, and poetry lovers from around the world.
