Ikamvalethu Educare

Ikamvalethu Educare is one of SAEP’s more recent partner acquisitions, and began their relationship in 2008. The principal is Nomnikelo Princess Nxumalo who employs five staff members who run their large centre of 148 children. Nomnikelo is well-educated and knowledgeable regarding early childhood development. Ikamvalethu has a big crèche building, plenty of outside space and even a vegetable garden available. However, the centre is very poorly equipped and the building is in urgent need of repair. The roof in particular is in a terrible condition, and is both leaky and unsafe. SAEP has only been working with them since late 2008 and is now in the process of organising necessary renovations with the help of “Wings of Support” and equipping the classrooms with tables, chairs, mattresses, baby cots and educational toys.

From its beginnings in 1998 in a single high school in the Cape Flats, SAEP has developed a number of innovative programmes of community development through education in Philippi and surrounding townships... As SAEP relies on a wide base of support, we are happy to confirm that in the experience of the Mandela Rhodes Foundation, SAEP is a most worthwhile partner and an organisation of integrity. If you are able to offer assistance of any kind, we are confident you will find the association rewarding.
- Shaun Johnson, Chief Executive of the Mandela Rhodes Foundation
