Makukhanye Educare

Makukhanye Educare is one of SAEP’s newest centres, and started working with the organisation in mid-2008. The centre is run by Nomahobe Manyela and provides for 48 children in a three-classroom facility. Nomahobe oversees four local staff members and has the space to separate the children according to age and ability. The Dutch organization, Wings of Support as well as Indigo Cosmetics provided the funding for Makukhanye to construct a new fence with a lockable gate, adding a considerable amount of security to the property. Makukhanye is not yet registered with the Departments of Education and Social Services; however they are working diligently towards this goal.

I have had many days in Hope Scholars and I can teach other people what I have learned and all the things we have done. My teacher asks me, "What have you eaten? Why are you so respectful?" And I say nothing have I eaten. I just joined Hope Scholars. The teacher says that before I was not doing school work like I do now. She says I am also better to others. For this I am glad to be in Hope Scholars.
