Nolufefe Educare has been established for over thirteen years, but only became affiliated with SAEP in late 2008. Principal Zukiswa Jafta presides over four staff members and 90 children. Zukiswa’s many years of early childhood experience make her an excellent addition to the Safety Unity Crèche Forum, and her good command of English ensures that Nolufefe is a welcoming and comfortable centre for SAEP’s international volunteers. The greatest challenge presently at Nolufefe, is the old and run-down structure of the building, which would greatly benefit from maintenance funding. The roof has deteriorated, making it unsafe and prone to leaking during Cape Town’s long winter months. In addition, the centre lacks an abundance of educational books and toys, and would like to erect a jungle gym on its grounds. With the help of Wings of Support, SAEP is planning renovations at Nolufefe.
