Noluthando Educare

Principal: Ncumeka Jacobs; 51 children; 3 staff members.

Noluthando Educare was established more than ten years ago and has seen major improvements and progress happening since joining SAEP in 2003. Noluthando recently registered with the Department of Social Services and now receives state subsidy. In 2007, thanks to generous support from Breadline Africa and SAEP volunteers, Noluthando’s roof was replaced and the leaking classrooms were tiled and painted. A new toilet block was erected on site, and the outside area was paved to prevent flooding and mud during the winter months. Best of luck to Noluthando as an independent crèche!

I am very grateful for the time I got to spend working in Cape Town at SAEP. Along with meeting wonderful people of all kinds, I was able to participate on the real ground level of making differences in people's lives. Working at SAEP made me realize how much one person can help, with just a little effort and enthusiasm - and what a rewarding human experience that work can be.
- Erin McMullin, former volunteer from St. John's College
