Noncedo Educare

Principal: Nolithemba Bolisi; 102 children; 9 staff.

Mama Bolisi, principal of Noncedo, initiated the contact between SAEP and the Safety Unity Crèche Forum in 2003 when she approached Jane Keen and asked for assistance.

Since then, Nkosi has played a key role in the Forum and SAEP’s ECD Programme and the crèche has tremendously developed from a small shack to a beautiful and spacious educare centre. The centre now consists of three large rooms and a kitchen block and toilet block constructed in late 2006 thanks to JDI and Unilever. Noncedo boasts a beautiful playground and created a vegetable garden in 2008 with the help of a local volunteer, Ria Pienaar. Also in 2008, Noncedo staff and children were excited by the long-awaited installation of electricity on the site. At the beginning of 2009, Noncedo decided to continue independently from SAEP and we wish them all the very best in their future!

Through my bridging year, I have grown and improved personally and academically. I have decided what I want to become and have met lots of people and learned a lot. I have improved my computer skills and that has helped me adjust easily into the university environment.
