Arts Outreach Programme

HS - Arts Outreach

Inspiring our youth through creativity and self-expression.

SAEP's Arts Outreach Programme works with Secondary Schools throughout Philippi to provide arts workshops in a variety of artistic disciplines, including visual art, music, dance, drama, photography, creative writing, and film.  SAEP currently partners with six schools in Philippi and reached over 600 learners in 2011.

In all of the SAEP Arts Outreach Programme's projects, we endeavour to:

  • increase access to the arts and opportunities for artistic expression in a variety of disciplines for young people from severely under-resourced township communities;
  • promote increased knowledge, participation, and pride in South African art forms;
  • support job creation in the townships and in the wider Cape Town community through programme staff and tutoring positions;
  • expose young people to professional artwork and performances and provide opportunities to interact with professional artists;
  • introduce township youth to professional opportunities and opportunities for tertiary study within their chosen artistic discipline;
  • increase racial integration and cultural exchange amongst individual South African and world communities;
  • inspire creativity through self-expression; and
  • enhance learners' pride and sense of accomplishment through performances and exhibition of their creative work.

With the ethos of educating the "whole learner," the SAEP Arts Outreach Programme seeks to provide a space for creative expression and personal growth outside of the regular academic school day. We strive to inspire our learners through the arts and to use art as a tool to develop skills for personal and professional success.

THANK YOU all for all the support throughout our stay in South Africa. I have grown as a person due to my time spent in SA.
