Updated: Mar 22, 2023

Energy insecurity is a global challenge that requires an innovative multi-stakeholder approach to identifying solutions and alternatives. The Environmental Advocacy and M&E interns from SAEP had a stimulating day at the Africa Energy Indaba on March 9th. The SAEP interns participated in various discussions about diversifying energy streams in South Africa and the Southern African continent. The team attended various seminars and visited various stalls to gain insight into alternative energy solutions and share knowledge.

The speakers from various companies explained nuanced and complex energy innovations and experiments, occurring rapidly, within South Africa and the Southern African continent. A key takeaway was that “alternative energy is no longer an alternative”.

The SAEP team is grateful to have been welcomed to the African Energy Indaba. The day was educational and convivial, and will no doubt result in continued advocacy and engagements on action on climate change, energy insecurity and health.
